Stando a quanto riferito da ONG Human Rights Watch, dopo aver analizzato e verificato diversi video, l'esercito israeliano avrebbe utilizzato delle armi al fosforo bianco sul porto di Gaza e in un'area del Libano ai confini con Israele in risposta all'attacco di Hamas. Questa tipologia di armi può essere usata legalmente in guerra per creare cortine di fumo o come illuminante. Ma l’utilizzo di armi al fosforo bianco contro i civili è vietato dall’ONU. Dunque, qualora venisse confermato l'utilizzo di queste armi da parte di Israele, saremmo di fronte a un crimine di guerra.
